Stupid doctors... I wanted my parents to wait a little longer before they found out my sex... but nooooooooooooooo. Stupid doctors...
Well, if you haven't already heard... I'm a girl. About 80-85% sure, I'm a girl. I suppose that close enough.
The tech took lots of pictures of me. Dad's really excited cause he's got one that makes me look like an alien... very cool.
I wasn't very happy that they were taking pictures of me today, though, so I tried to do lots and lots of somersaults, flips, backflips, and super-spin back-forwards with twists. But that dang tech.. she was good. She saw my little hamburger. It looks kind of like a Big Mac, actually, but this will be that last time I let anyone other than my doctor or my parents see.
Mom and Dad don't have a name for me.. Mom really wants to call me Olivia. Dad... well, it don't matter cause he'll end up calling me some pet name just like he does the dog - sugar, sweetheart, donut-head, something like that.
So - what would you like to call me? And don't call me Shirley.

Subscription Service Test
I better get used to my child complaining or crying when it's not getting it's way, huh?
Anyway, I switched to a feedblitz service for the subscription. This post is a test of sorts. Unfortunately, for the free account, I can only do nightly updates. Oh, well... guess I'll find out tonight if it works.
Apologies to anyone who signed up on the old one. If you have a blackberry or RSS fee type service, I've enabled my feed so you can read it there if you want.
Google Reader is also a good feed reading service, I have it installed on my homepage.

Hear Me!
Okay so, dad tried to set up this subscription thing for me... so people could get notified when I post from the womb, but it wasn't working.... I told him about it and supposedly he's fixed it. We'll see... thought I'd post something to test it out.
Yea! Classes!
I can't remember the last time I was excited about taking a class. Ugh! But I am now! I registered us for our childbirth classes. We are taking three of them cause we're overachievers. Not really. Mostly it's because we're clueless first time parents! We're signed up for the following:
Expectant Parents
We get to find out all about labor and delivery, including the dreaded delivery video. Ack! We also get the tour of St. Francis, which is where I'll be giving birth. It's a really nice, state of the art hospital, not far from where we live. They even have a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)...which I hope we won't need, but complications happen, so it's reassuring to have it there. The hospital has LDL Rooms...which basically means your labor, delivery, and recovery all occur in the same room. After recovery, they have private post-partum rooms. Sounds pretty sweet to me! The hospital also has an Inn and we get a free night stay there for someone. Want more info? Check it out here: http://www.stfrancishospitals.org/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=67.
Breastfeeding
Yeah...we're gonna take a class to figure out how. Apparently it's complicated, who knew? I am really going to try and breastfeed for the first year, but I'm willing to let go of that expectation if it doesn't work out. But that's my goal...and my job provides private pumping rooms where you can go hook up and pump when you're back at work. That'll be a huge benefit.
Newborn Care
We thought it would be wise to take this as we know nothing about caring for an infant. Or toddler. Or child for that matter. But first things first! We get to play with dolls and figure out how to diaper (it's been a while since I had to do this...since Chloe was a baby, maybe?!), dress, swaddle, and hold the baby. Very important things....gotta remember to support that wobbly little neck.
So I'm at 15 weeks today and feeling all right. Had a bit of a step back yesterday and spent the afternoon in bed napping off some pretty bad nausea. Then had a hard time sleeping last night because of my 3 hour nap! Sleeping is tricky now...I love sleeping on my stomach...that's how I fall asleep. Well I can't do that anymore...must sleep on that left side which is apparently the best for me and the baby and our circulations. But that is not a great position. My lower back hurts. So unless Ryan is willing to be my human pillow, I might need to look into one of those pregnancy pillows. I've been holding off on getting one because they're so big...it's like having a third person in bed! And I don't know how that will fly with poor Gypsy!!
Anyhoo...I'm off to lunch now. I've actually been energetic enough to cook this week so I've been bringing my lunch. Not today though...dumb, tired, forgetful me left lunch on the kitchen table. So it's off to the cafeteria! Later!

Doctor's Appointment
Yup...we've been caught! We were indeed spying on the baby yesterday! We had our third doctor's visit and were able to hear the heart beat for the first time! Very exciting! We have quite an active baby, however, so it was hard for Dr. McDonald to stay in one place for too long! The heart rate was 161 bpm, which we were told is normal. I've also gained three pounds in the last 4 weeks, which is also normal. It was a very quick appointment...we waited in the waiting room longer than we were in with the doctor! Also got to find out my blood type, which I never knew. I am O Positive, which is basically what 40% of the rest of the population is.
The really exciting news is that our next appointment is a screening ultrasound...which means...we will probably get to learn the sex of the baby! So exciting! We ran into some scheduling issues as we are in North Carolina the first week of June and right when we get back, the doctor is on vacation. So the appointment is set for Tuesday, May 29th at 3:20. Cross your fingers that we can find out cause we are on the early end of when they do these. I'll only be a little over 17 weeks pregnant and they usually do them weeks 18-20.
So I'm in the second trimester now...still tired but I can stay up a little later and function on less sleep. I also have a little more energy. Ryan's mom came over last night to help us figure out what to do with the overgrown landscaping and I actually had the energy to help weed for a little while and then go cook dinner for the three of us. And I actually stayed up to watch the results show of Dancing With the Stars. Amazing! Still having some nausea too...but that's less frequent as well. So things are looking up! Pam (Ryan's mom) brought over some clothes last night that she thought I might like, which is great. I don't think it'll be too long before I'll have to retire my pants in particular. They're already tight and uncomfortable for the most part.
Don't forget to play the Baby Reddick Guessing Game and see how close you come to divining the sex, birthday, etc!

Strange Noises
I heard some strange noises today. I think someone is spying on me. My ears are just starting to pick up some ambient noise and I could swear about 15 min. ago I heard something banging on the outside of my cave. And then there was like this weird rubbing sound.......
Then all of the sudden.... wham.. I'm hearing my own heartbeat all around me. It was beating pretty fast too... I kept trying to move and swim around cause it was really loud... but it kept following me.
I'm not sure if someone wants in or wants me to come out, but I'm not going anywhere..... not yet.
