I'm not sure that I'm ready to leave the womb yet. All the doctors say that I'm supposed to come out on Friday, but it's really warm in here. Although it is getting a little cramped.
Yesterday, I heard some poking around my head which woke me up from my nap. Dang, doctors. Anyways... I heard the doc and mom talking and they said if I don't come out on my own.. they are going to force me out next Thursday. So now I've got to decide.. do I surprise everyone and start my trek when they least expect it? Or milk this warm and increasingly small womb as long as I can?
What would you do?

Baby Countdown 2007
Friday is the big day. Or is supposed to be the big day, but who knows when she'll actually decide to grace us with her birth?
As the day gets closer, everyone and their uncle's sister's brother's cousin weighs in on when she'll come or in some cases when she shouldn't come. Here's a sampling I've what I've heard:
"She needs to wait til Nov. XX cause that's my birthday."
"You don't want to have a Halloween baby.. maybe if it were a boy but you don't want a Halloween girl"
"When's the moon going to be full?" (and that will tell us what???)
Regardless of when she'll actually come, what the experts say, or what the well wishers want... she'll come when she's darn good and ready. And I know this because she is going to be my daughter and if she's anything like me she'll do what she damn well pleases. :P
As for the father to be, I'm anxious. I picked up a new book (a light comic fatherhood book called "Pop Culture: The sane man's guide to insane world of new fatherhood". It's the second one I've read on fatherhood and I'm liking it better than the first one.
How's mom? Done. Ready. Willing. Waiting.

The Waiting Game
Not much to report... we are sitting at 1 cm dilation as of Friday's OB appt. So we're pretty much just waiting.. due date isn't until Nov. 2nd, but you really never know what will happen. A friend of ours delivered 6 days early back in April and it was her first. 6 days early is Sat. the 27th.
The good news is that we've got the nursery done. Crib, changing table, paint etc.. all done. Now we're just focusing on trying to make sure that we've got things ready for when she goes into labor. The whole philosophy on preparation for labor is that anything that absolutely positively needs to be done prior to returning home from the hospital is getting done now. Everything else is still a priority but optional.
We put together the email list to send out a notice of the birth last night... if you want to be sure you're on it.. email me or post a comment here and I'll make sure. I'll be posting a notice on here too. Hopefully with pictures... gotta get a Flickr or Photobucket account for that though.

The Home Stretch
I was getting ready for work this morning and Allison told me that it's about 4 weeks now until our scheduled due date. This is the home stretch.. we have rounded third base and are heading home now.
Things are pretty busy for us, as you can probably tell from the lack of posts these last few months. We are busy getting the house ready for baby. I tried to pick up the crib and changing table last night, but it wouldn't fit in my car. So dad is going to borrow my brother's truck and we'll pick it up tonight. Can't wait to put it together.. love that stuff. If I could work full time just putting together furniture etc.. I would be a happy man.
Everyone is asking are you nervous... are you excited... and I just don't know how to answer those questions. There is such a mix of emotions... fear, excitement, anxiety that there is no way you can quantify it in response to a question.
On another note, I decided that I won't shave again until after the baby is born. It's an old tradition borne out of my college theater days... so the home stretch means a beard for me. :-)
Anyone who has sent cards, well wishes, gifts for our marriage our impending baby... thank you, thank you, thank you. Your kind thoughts and support are greatly appreciated and welcomed. Thank you cards are in the works.
