Doctor's Visit

So...had my doctor visit yesterday. This was my last one with my doctor, Dr.McDonald. Starting next time I begin rotations around so that I meet with all of the doctors in the practice. Which is nice considering whichever doctor is the one on call is the one who will deliver me when I go into labor, no guarantees it will be my doctor. So it's good that it won't be a complete stranger no matter who I get!

The doctor said everything looked fine...the top of my uterus is now above my belly-button, which is normal for 21 weeks along. The baby's heartbeat is strong...she was a little surprised I hadn't really felt much movement, but I've been told it's hard for first-time mom's to discern what is movement and what is gas. I've got plenty of the latter! Next visit is also the blood sugar test to make sure I haven't contracted gestational diabetes. Yeah...I've heard people talk about the nasty orange drink you have to drink! Then you have to wait an hour to take the test. Oh well...better bring some of my fun gossip mags with me!

So...the only thing the doctor wasn't completely happy about was that I had gained 6 pounds since my last visit. The norm is 4-5 pounds, so it wasn't too bad. But I never thought I would gain TOO much weight! Course my last visit I had only gained 3 pounds from the visit before, so doesn't that all even out?! I'm up near 130 pounds right now, which is the heaviest I've ever been. Guess I better start getting used to that cause the weight gain is gonna keep coming! I blame the vacation on the weight gain...parents are always trying to feed you when you see them and there was so much good food to be had...especially with Marianne and Tim cooking and grilling...yum!

Last night Ryan and I were lying on the couch watching a movie, and I felt the baby kick twice! One of the times Ryan said he felt it too. That was pretty cool...I hope I can start feeling her more often to start discerning a pattern. It's hard to have to wait between appointments to hear that heartbeat and have that confirmation that everything is fine...baby is alive and well...I can see why people spend money on those home heart monitors. I'm trying to trust that as long as I feel okay...no serious cramping, contractions, or bleeding...that everything with the baby is okay too. I have been a bit more nervous about it lately though...maybe my mother instincts are starting to rear up as the pregnancy progresses.

In wedding news...plans are progressing...I know Ryan wants to send out an "official" notice to everyone, so I won't give it all away. Suffice it to say that we have plane tickets and a hotel...and will be needing some pet sitters the last week of July/first week of August!
